My wife and I absolutely hate roller coasters. I think they are bad for the stomach and the nerves. She just hates them. Our three-and-half-year old daughter thinks they are a blast.

My daughter is at that stage where she wants to go to an amusement park everyday.  We have visited a few this summer and each time, I have just hated each ride. As soon as we get to these parks, my wife starts feeding out little boy. Of course then, daddy has to take the little girl on the rides! I didn’t know feeding a baby could take that long!

My daughter and I were watching TV last night. There was a show on Disney where these kids (cartoon characters) were building a roller coaster. My daughter screams, “Daddy, I want to go on a roller coaster!”

My response is: “I don’t like roller-coaters.”

In the softest and sweetest voice a three-and-half-year old could muster, she looked me straight in the eye and asked, “Daddy, are you scared?”

Is there a place for an anesthesiology and/or perioperative medicine-based forum? I couldn’t find anything on the net.

My wife is away so I have our two kids alone for a few days.

This is my questions: HOW DOES SHE DO IT?!!!!

http://www.coeinc.org/Articles/HousewifeWorth.pdf

One author estimates the worth of a housewife to be about $125,900.00 a year. I don’t think the writer even comes close.

To all you mothers out there, especially the single ones – my hat is off to you.

Don’t get me wrong – I looooove my kids but the lack of adult contact, the inability to get up and go, the need to be on the constant alert as my girl can do something absolutely crazy at any time, the efforts to get some food down my boy, the repetitiveness….

It’s really tough to see how mothers do this day in , day out and still have the time and strength to cater to the whims of their men! I have always lent a hand at home when I could because I have a very long working days. Still, doing it day in day out is somethig else.

Now I understand why the house does not always look spick and span. How could it ever? The wrecking crew won’t allow it. It still amazes me how quickly those little beings can tear a room apart.

What is the other side of the coin? The ability to really spend time with my kids and be a daddy. That feeling is awesome.

So to all you mothers out there – Thank you!

Come back to read more about my adventures as a stay-at-home dad!

The picture below is of an young lady who was having a pretty extensive procedure neccessitating an arterial line. A few days prior to her procedure, she had spent some time shelling nuts and hence obtained a dark colorization of the hand.

My worry from the safety perspective is the difficulty in telling if that hand gets ischemic. On the other hand, one can place a pulse oximeter probe on a finger on that hand as a way of monitorng for ischemia.

Femoral or dorsalis pedis arterial lines were not feasible.

What do you all think?
